How to Choose the First Enterprise Agentic AI Workflow
The first enterprise agentic workflow should be bounded, owned by a business operator, measurable without a new data project, and reversible when the action is wrong.

Key terms
- Agentic workflow
- A multi-step operational workflow in which an AI workforce unit can plan and take permitted actions, with a person on the exception path.
- System of record
- The application that already holds the business object the workflow will read or update.
- Baseline
- The current cycle time, completion path, and exception handling before any AI workforce unit is introduced.
Start from the work, not the model
The first workflow is a scoping decision. NIST's map function asks teams to describe the context, the people affected, and the intended use before they measure anything. A model comparison does not answer those questions. A named business process does.
TechStrata's strategy work starts the same way: name the workflow, the business owner, the systems, the control model, and the measures that will decide whether to scale. The screen below is the filter we use before a workflow is a candidate for production.
Reject work that cannot be reviewed
If nobody owns the outcome, the workflow is not ready. If the action cannot be undone or handed to a person, it is not ready. If the baseline is a story rather than a record the operator already trusts, it is not ready. Those are scoping decisions, not technology limits.
A good first workflow is often narrow: one case type, one queue, one handoff. Breadth can wait until the record shows that the action, the exception, and the measure are stable.
First-workflow screen
TechStrata scoping framework. Passing the screen means the workflow is a candidate. It is not evidence that a deployment improved a metric.
- 01BoundedThe trigger, the systems, and the permitted actions can be listed on one page.
- 02OwnedA named business operator accepts the outcome, the exceptions, and the decision to scale or stop.
- 03MeasurableCompletion, cycle time, and exceptions already exist in a record. The team does not need a new warehouse to see them.
- 04ReversibleA wrong action can be corrected or stopped by a person before it becomes the business record.
- 05SourcedThe context the workflow needs already lives in a system of record the identity is allowed to read.
